Refund Security Deposit

By Annoyed by Greedy Landlord

Hi, we just moved out a rental house after a few years.  We paid over $1,500 for security deposit. We always paid rent on time and took care of the house like our own.  We even did touch up paint and had the house professionlly cleaned after moving out.  The landlord found a crack at the bottom of the front door and wanted to charge us the cost of replacement door.  The house had a lot of settling issues by the entry and front door was sticky and difficult to close during wet season.  We definitely didn’t damage the door intentionally and we are pretty sure that this is normal wear and tear issue.  Any advise?  Should we file a formal complaint or go to small claims court?  At this point, we are just really annoyed by the greedy people.  Thanks!

Hello! I have had an experience like this one too. Hard to deal with these kind of people. The next logical step for you to take is to file a complaint. Mediation agencies like the RPA has complaint centers that can hep you do just that.
