renting an appartment from last 6 years

By Mohammed

I have been renting an appartment from last 6 years.and when i move out the landlord has put a fine of $1600 whcih includes $750 for carpet and other things. They did not change the carpet in last 6 years and after i move out they charge me $750 for it sayign that it is half of what they are spending for the new carpet and since i spoilt the carpet so i have to give half the price of the carpet.Do i have to pay that amount after staying in that appartment for 6 years? please let me know.

They have also charged me for cabinets saying that they became very dirty. They never changed or cleaned the cabinets in last 6 years and now when i move out they are charging me for that.Is it a valid charge? Please let me know.
