rodents in the appartment. slow acting landlord

we ahve discovered rodent in he apartment. These are really big rats. informed landlord who traditionally is slow to act. have not resided there for 5 weeks. informed land lord we refuse to return until problem solved. Our cat got so scared that it ran away. what are my legal option
