Squirrels in attic, we want out of our lease

By anonymous

We moved in August 2009. In December we thought we heard the squirrels. Now, in August 2010, our electricals are going haywire – fans turning on automatiaclly, lights not turning on at all. Our power bill is out of control. While we are on vacation for the entire month, and nothing was turned on, our power bill was still $380.00. My husband went up to attic to check, and saw tracks, we told landlord, she had pest control check it out, and he says the attic is infested!! Showed us the massive amounts of poop and other signs of them livng there! It’s disgusting. The house is not even 2 years old. He suspects the owner knew the squirrels were there from the very beginning. We have 3 kids, and we don’t want to bother with traps! We’re paying nearly 3000 per month for the house. How do we get out of the lease?? We’ve already paid for 13 months, and the contract says if we leave prior to aug 2011, we have to give 60 day notice, plus pay 2 months to break the lease – that’s crazy!! we assumed that the house was in great condition becasue it was brand new, that is the only reason we signed a 24 month…Please help!!…There are other issues too, i.e., we are on a holding tank that continues to back up and permeate the house with a sewage odor. It’s much worse in the summer. Thankfully, as it cools down, we can breather easier…and save money on scented candles!

Just moved in an apartment at 4900 Butterfield , in Hillside, IL. The first day I heard and animal within the walls. Reported it two days after I moved in. I have complained in person, over ther phone and in writing. Til this day the problem still exist. The animals are scratching and digging and running and crying or making some type of sound. Lanlord insists that he is taking care of situation. He originally told us if the problem was not solved by last week he will look into moving us. Today when we mention it to him. Hes talking about give him unto the end of January. This is unacceptable; I have asthma and a nervous heart. This afffected in several ways. I want to leave here and never see this place or the people who run it, never again. This Realty has been very deceitful to us. At this point I am ready to leave this place, but I want to in good grace. Please give me some suggestions. Thank you
