Why the Harassment? I’m not late!!

By Eugenia

I’ve been renting an apartment since July, 2010.  Rent is due on the 1st not later than 5th (for late fees).  My landlord does not have a drop box, nor will she give me deposit slips to deposit into her account, and does not want me to put in her mailbox or mail to her.  She calls me either the end of month or first of month to inquire what day I’m going to pay the rent.  I have never paid her past the 5th of any month, yet she wants to know the exact day I plan to pay.  She will demand that I meet her before 3 or 4 (so she can make the bank) WTH is wrong with her.  My obligation is to pay the rent, not make sure she makes the bank.  She also complains that she has to meet me somewhere after the both of us get off work, which is inconvenient (for both of us), since I sometimes get off after 6:30pm.  She also complains that I give her money orders/cashiers check for rent.  I feel she should NOT call me unless its after the 5th.  She feels that she can call at anytime to inquire about rent.  Is this harassing?  I don’t ever pay late I just don’t know what day.  Should she just rely on the fact that it’s paid before the 5th?  Can somebody please advise me (other than MOVE!!!)????  Any landlord should be grateful to have a tenant that is never late, and still put up with the harassing phone calls/texts!!!
