Wont return security deposit

Need help!

1-paid $1,200 x3. 1 for first month, 1 for last month, 1 for security

2- wont return security, says he never received.

3- is blaming us for damages to apartment, which i wrote to him about asking for him to fix during our 1st month in the unit (he never answered or fixed)

4- now is evading us

Have email proof of me asking him to fix damages back then, have proof of all 3 cancelled checks.

What can we do? Please help!
