stolen goods.

ok my room mate left our garage unlocked and didnt tell anyone. when i left our house it was locked. he left after i did and leftit unlocked. i am now missing iteams that where in there the day befor he left it unlocked. is he responsible to reimburse me for the stolen goods. aslo i have filed a police report what should i do.
