Time limit on repairs
By Mandy
A month ago we had a leak in our hall bathroom from the water return pipe in the upstairs apartment. It took the maintenance staff 2 weeks and several holes in the walls just to find the source of the leak. While they were looking for the leak, our carpet in the hall was SOAKED. They had the water extracted a total of 3 times in a month! The maintenance guys took out the cabinet in the bathroom, fixed the leak and have yet to repair the holes in the walls or even replace the cabinet! I have taken pictures but I dont know who to send them to. I’ve called every week since they have taken the cabinet out wondering when they are going to fix our bathroom. The drywall at the floor and baseboards are still black where the water was leaking. My husband has been diagnosed with lung cancer just before the leak happened. I am wondering what an acceptable time limit is on repairs and who do I contact about getting help.

Hi Mandy! Sorry to hear about your repair problems. Normally you can give your landlord 5-7 days to fix the problems on your rental unit. Since it has been weeks now and still the repairs are not done then you can file a complaint against your landlord. You can either do that by hiring a lawyer to file the case for you at your local county or you can file your complaint through a private mediation company like the RPA. |
