what should we do?

 My family moved into this house four years ago, we have been paying rent every month till last month, my husband got laied off and we told our landlord, thats when she said dont worry about it i am putting the house up for short sale. if she knew she would be doing this how come it took my husband losing his job for us to find out. how long do we have from the time the house sales to move out? my biggest fear is that it will be a knock on the door and someone telling us we have 30day to get out of their house? what rights do we have is renters?
