Failed to Give 30 Day notice To vacate

My landlord is charging a month’s rent because I failed to give him a 30 day notice to vacate.….In my agreed signed lease it specifically states when lease is up upon legally moving out either a 30 day notice and or when the lease is up. No where in my agreement says I had to give a 30 days notice. I took the statement when my lease is up I can move out and the landlord knows just as well. A notice was taped on my apartment door stating if I was to rent month to month or sign another lease come to the office to sign papers and pay next month’s rent.
Am I in the wrong and have to legally pay a month’s rent even though I have moved out..on time with the apartment in good order?
