Rent increase limit

hey every body i just moved in with my grilfriend and her landlord jacked the rent up two hundred dollors can they  do that.  I would think there is some type of rent increase limit.  Otherwise how can someone even afford to rent.  Its crazy that my landlord wants to charge me for having an extra person move-in.

I am a former renter in my apartment complex. My lease will be ended in July, 2011. My current rent rate is $450 per month. They notified me that they would increase the rent to $579 if I renew rate within Nov 1, 2010. If I renew after Nov 1, it will be $599. I want to know the limit of rent increase.

BY LAW IF YOUR RENT IS TOO GO UP THERE HAS TO BE WRITTEN NOTICE ADDRESSED TO YOU WITH THE COMPANY THAT OWNS THE APARTMENTS AND A SIGNATURE FROM
THE LANDLORD.
