septic leak

I rent on a monthy basis and I have been at my residence for a few year’s. ..I noticed my septic started to leak( non aerobic)…I reported it to my landlord and nothing is done…it is so bad now I don’t use my large back yard now cause of the septic. ..how do I get the landlord to fix or is it my problem. ..it was leaking when he lived here from My understanding and just coverd the problem with more dirt
