How to fight false carpet damage

By Brian

I just recently moved out of my 1 bedroom apartment. They are trying to charge me 70 dollars out of my deposit for "carpet damage". When I first moved in the carpet was in poor to fair condition and I made note of it on my inventory completion form. I did not cause any further damage besides maybe normal wear and tear. I took pictures to document everything was clean and ready for the next tenant. I know 70 isn’t much but I need the money. Is there any way I can disprove their argument against me? A coworker was telling me they aren’t allowed to charge you for light carpet usage. Can anyone help me?

Thank you so much.
