Can I get out of my lease without getting an attorney involved or having a bead credit score?

By keisha

I looked for an off campus apartment because housing was full at my school. I had my sister sign my lease and send it to the apartment complex because I was out of town and they told me I had to send the lease back within 24 hours in order to have my deposit fee waviered. I couldn’t have my mom co sign for me because her credit score was bad. When I tried to co sign the lease myself the apartment complex told me that I had to be 21 and have had my job for at least 2 years and make three times the rent payment or find a co signer. I am 18 and don’t meet any of the requirements. When I informed the apartment complex that I was not able to find a co signer; they said I would just have to make a depsit of two months rent. I tried to get a loan to pay my rent for the whole year but without a co signer it was not possible. I ended up getting housing on campus and now the apartment is telling me to sublease and pay them money which I don’t have. They said if I don’t then they will send my info to a creditor. I consulted with an attorney who is a friend of my aunt and she just informed me that I need to pay her $250 for her to make a phone call to them.(which was never discussed when I informed her about the situation). So, its either pay them or pay her. My problem is that I don’t have the money to pay anyone anything. I’m just a broke college freshman trying to get my education. Please help
