Carpet Replacement

By anonymous

I just moved into an apartment and the carpet smells like Dog and pet deotorizer. I have asked her to change the carpet and she refuses. It is old and smells like dog and I hate it. Does she have to replace the carpet since the previous had a pet?

Carpet Replacement

Our landlord has charged us for carpet replacement to the tune of $1200 for 3 bedrooms when we moved out after 2 years.  The cheapest white contractor grade carpet was intalled prior to our rental.  When we moved out, we didn’t get the carpet professionally cleaned because it didn’t seem to need it- just normal wear and tear.  Is the landlord required to give us notice of carpet replacement prior to performing the work?  Who determines whether the carpet can be cleaned or needs to be replaced?  Is the landlord required to seek expert opinion/cleaning prior to determining that the carpet needs replacement

Carpet Replacement

By Ary

I lived at Jamison Park Apartments for two years in two different apartments. The first apartment after a year I moved to the next building over and received a clean bill meaning carpet in excellent condition. After the second year I moved out completely and received a letter stating that all of the carpet had to be replacement due to pet urine. Now I would understand if my dog was there peeing left and right but my dog stayed there minimally he was always at my moms house or at work with me.  Now I’m getting this letter saying that it’s almost 1,000 dollars for 500 square feet to be replaced of carpet. I went down and spoke to Kathy the property manager and said I wanted to see the itemized statement of the cleaners and the carpet installers. She told me the carpet cleaners NEVER came out and I called and they confirmed that no one had been out there since 2009 to clean carpets. How is it that after a clean bill from the previous apartment that once I left the property completely they want me to replace carpet that wasn’t even new when i moved in. Kathy also told me that some units have carpets 10 years and older…
