Entering Apartment without Notification

By Patricia Rabong

I have lived at my current apartment for 14 months with my adult son who is out of work and take medication for a panic/anxiety disorder.  About six months ago – I had left for work 7:45 am. At 9:30 am my son calls me and said that he was woken up with banging on the door and when he got up to answer it two men were standing in the doorway.  They were maintenance and advised they were there to change the air filter.  Granted my son yelled What Are You Doing Here and they yelled back at him and then left. He did hear one say – I’m not dealing with this shit.  We complaint to management and they said they we sorry – that had a notice advising us that maintenace would be coming but the notice never left our file – so we were not aware. At that time I advised them of my sons condition and I also informed them I was on High Blook pressure medication.  Today – while I was getting ready for work – I was in my bathroom which is the fartest room from the front door – metal hitting metal and so I went out to check thinking it was my son and I was greeted with a maintenance man in my foyer standing with a vacumn, metal ladder and broom and I asked why are you hear?  He said he was told this was a Vacant apartment and needed to clean it.  I advised him the apartment directly across from me was vacant but he helped up a key in his had and said the key only fit my apratment and then he left.   So what are my rights in relation to this matter.
