HOW DO I KNOW IF MY APARTMENT BUILDING IS IN FORECLOSURE AS I THINK IT IS THE LAND LORD WILL NOT BE TRUTHFUL WE LIVE IN NEW YORK STATE

MYHUSBAND AND I ARE LONG TIME RENTERS IN THIS APARTMENTFOR ALMOST 9 YEARS. WHEN WE FIRST MOVED IN THE LANDLORD DID NOT LIVE IN NEW YORK STATE, SO HIS BROTHER WAS THE CARE TAKER. HE DID HAVE AN APARTMENT IN THE BUILDING SO WHEN HE CAME UP HE WOULD HAVE A PLACE TO STAY. HE MET A WOMAN AND MARRIED HER IN A VERY SHORT TIME. SHE IS VERY MONEY HUNGRY AND NOW HE IS A SLUM LORD.BOTH MY HUSBAND AND MYSELF ARE DISABLED MY HUSBAND HAS CANCER AND I HAVE MANY SERIOUS MEDICAL PROBLEMS. WE HAVE ASK HIM FOR PAINT TO REDO THIS APARTMENT AND HE WILL PROVIDE NONE. HE LETS ANYONE IN THIS BUILDING THAT HAS THE SECURITY AND MONTHS RENT. NOW THE PEOPLE THAT MOVED IN UPSTAIRS ARE ON WELFARE, SHE WORKS, HE DOES NOT. SHE HAS 3 KIDS BY 2 DIFFERENT MEN. THEY ARE DRUG ADDICTS AND STOLE OUR ELECTRIC BY GOING INTO THE CELLAR AND HOOKING UP THEIR  ELECTRIC TO OURS AND APT. #1. NOW THIS HAS BEEN REPORTED TO THE LANDLORD AND ALSO NATIONAL GRID. SO FAR NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE. THE LANDLORD UNHOOKED THEIR ELECTRIC AND THEN THE NEXT DAY CAME BACK AND HOOKED THEIRS UP TO THEIR MAIN BREAKER. NATIONAL GRID HAD TO COME AND TURN THERE METER ON. HE DOES NOT CARE UNLESS IT INVOLVES MONEY COMING OUT OF HIS POCKET. IN THE SUMMER SEVERAL PACKAGES CAME FROM A BANK. I CALLED HIM AND ASKED HIM IF IT HAD ANYTHING TO DO WITH FORECLOSURE HE ASSURED ME NOT. THEN SOMEONE CAME TO OUR DOOR A PROFESSIONAL PERSON ABOUT SOMETHING TO DO WITH INSURANCE AND FORECLOSURE. THE LANDLORD AGAIN DENIED IT. THEN A PAPER WAS HUNG ON OUR DOOR SINCE HE THE LANDLORD LIVES IN ANOTHER TOWN, STATING TO CALL THIS NUMBER. SO I CALLED IT . IT WASTHE BANK STATING IT WAS AN ATTEMPT TO COLLECT A DEBT. THEY COULD NOT GIVE ME ANYMORE INFO. SO I CALLED THE LANDLORD. HE DENIED IT. WE ASKED HIM TO PLEASE LET US KNOW SO WE CAN FIND A PLACE. AS BOTH OF US BEING DISABLED IT IS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO MOVE FURNITURE AND SUCH.MY HUSBAND WITH THE CANCER USE TO DO ALOT OF DIFFERENT WORK SUCH MOW THE LAWN AND FIX THINGS THAT WERE BROKE AND NEVER GOT PAID OR EVEN A THANK YOU.WE HAVE ASKED FOR A DIFFERENT CARPET IN THE LIVING ROOM IT IS ABOUT OVER 30 YEARS OLD AND HE WON’T PROVIDE IT. HE HAS FIXED NOTHING IN THIS APARTMENT IN THE 9 YEARS WE HAVE LIVE HERE. HE IS ALWAYS OVER ON THE 3RD OF EVERY MONTH FOR HIS RENT. NOW THE IDOTS THAT MOVED IN UPSTAIRS HE FIXED THAT APARTMENT PUT CARPET PAINTED IT AND TILED THE KITCHEN AND BATH AND THEY PAY 5 50 AND WE PAY 650 WHEN WE MOVED IN EVERYTHING BUT THE PROPANGE GAS WAS INCLUDED. AFTER HE MET HER HE CHANGED EVERYTHING. HE IS SO MONEY HUNGRY BUT DOESN’T PAY HIS MORTGAGE.THE ONES THAT MOVED IN UPSTAIRS THE COPS ARE THERE ABOUT 2 OR 3 TIMES A WEEK IF NOT MORE.THE LANDLORD KNOWS THEY ARE FRAUDING WELFARE BUT DOES NOTHING ABOUT IT. HE MOVED THEM FROM ONE OF HIS OTHER BUILDINGS TO HERE. WE HAVE RIGHTS HOW DO WE GET THOUGH TO HIM.HE THE LANDLORD LIES AND IS VERY GREEDY.THEY FIGHT ALL THE TIME AND MAKE HORRIBLE NOISE UNTIL LIKE 3 TO 4 AM OR LATER. ITS AWFUL WHEN U  ARE SO SICK AND HAVE TO PUT UP WITH IT.PLEASE GIVE US SOME SOUND ADVICE OTHER THAN HAVING TO MOVE AT THE PRESENT TIME AS WE HAVE NO WAY TO DO SO. I WISH WE COULD.WE NEED HELP. THE HOUSE IS UP FOR SALE AND ATLEAST 2 OR 3 TIMES A WEEK WE HAVE TO SHOW IT.WELL OUR APARTMENT. WHEN YOU DON’T FEEL GOOD YOU REALLY DON’T FEEL LIKE HAVING STRANGERS GOING THROUGH.HE ALSO GAVE A LETTER THAT IF YOU WERE LATE WITH YOUR RENT THERE WOULD BE A LATE FEE AND AFTER SO LONG YOU WOULD GET AN EVICTION. WELL ONE TENANT DOESN’T PAY ALL THE RENT AND STILL GETS AWAY. HOW DO YOU PROVE DISCRIMINATION WITH BOTH TENANTS. THERE IS ALSO A LAW IN NEW YORK STATE THAT BASCIALLY SAYS YOU ARE ENTITLED TO HAVE A SAFE CLEAN AND BEING ABLE TO ENJOY YOUR PEACE AND QUIET. NOW THIS IS NOT THE WAY IT IS HERE. I SPOKE TO THE CHIEF OF POLICE YESTERDAY AND HE TOLD ME HE IS TRYING TO GET IN TOUCH WITH THE LANDLORD. SO I CALLED HIM AND GAVE HIM THE LANDLORDS NUMBER. WE HAVE HAD MANY PEOPLE COME AND GO ALMOST ALL THAT LEFT OWED A LOT OF RENT. OUR RENT IS ALWAYS PAID ON TIME AND HAS BEEN PAID ON TIME. WE SHOULD NOT HAVE TO GO THROUGHT THIS. PLEASE IF YOU HAVE ADVICE PLEASE LET ME AND MY HUSBAND KNOW.

Sorry if your having such problem. As renters we need to make sure to check out the apartments first. But sometimes we really need a place to live in so we somehow miss this part out.Try filing a complaint through RPA to have it resolved.

It’s really sad to read about concerns like this. An I can see that this has been becoming more common. Answering to the OP, Googling: “how to know if apartment is in foreclosure” turns up a lot of results.
