Late Fee

By Rosanna

Since February, my landlord has had me mail my rent check to her. In June, she changed addresses without notifying me and my rent check got delayed due to mail forwarding. She requested that I cancel the check & write a new one, which I did. In my haste to write a new check, I forgot to sign it, but corrected this error as soon as she brought it to my attention. Now my landlord is trying to charge me a late fee for June’s rent, even though my original mailed check was on time. Do I have to pay a late fee even though I paid on time and her moving addresses w/o notification is what caused the rent to be late?

Late Fee Problem

By Mirko Rosenau

In my apartment are a few blinds and a door broken.

I called the landlord a few month ago and I got a answer that somebody will take care of it.

Nothing happen.    I kept reminding them quite a few times.

Now  the next rent for February was due. So I got a moneyorder,   but this time I wrote a reminder on it,  so that they can not miss my message.  This time I got a answere,   in form of

I was really 1 day late.   The landlord is more or less responsible for this situation. If they don’t care over  such a long time, than why sjhould I care?.   I have to remind them  for months to do, their  part of the rent-contract and still all the problems are not solved.  Compared to me waiting and reminding over such a long time, to me paying only 1 day late?!  It makes a Late Fee redicules. I talked to the landlord without any result yet. They say if they cancle this fee now. Thay would have to cancle other Fee´s as well.  Can I cut the rent? Or do I have to pay the Fee if they don’t do their job?Thank You!

Hi Mirko,

Landlord must thanks for your kindness and goodness that even after the problem is not resolved you are paying him the rental amount. Also he is maintaining late fee record for each and every tenant. One of my friend recently having the same problem but after logging a file complaint with RPA just for 35$. Landlord rectified it as he was afraid that RPA would make negative public record. And finally got the resolution against the problem.
