my landlords renting illegaly what now?

i just found out the back house i am renting is illegal. what do i do now. i have been fighting dpss for my grandson, only to find out they wont place him with me because the house is not legala the landlord knew all along that i was fighting the county for the grandchild when i moved in. what do i do now and now rent is due tomorrow. do i pay him, or just start looking for somewhere else? can he legally do anything like shut off utilitys etc?
