Rented a bed bug infested apartment, Can I break my lease?

By Erica

I rented a apartment the last weekend of May.. By the middle of April my daughter started getting these bites. I went up to the apartment office and the first thing the owner says to me is.. "WE DON’T PAY FOR BED BUG TREATMENT." I didn’t know what was going on at this point. So I called for an bb inspection with 2 different companies. Neither 1 could locate anything at that time. Now it’s August and I found 3 in two days. All kept in a ziploc bag for proof. I have never had problems with bed bugs and I’m sure that they were their when I moved in. I filed a complaint with the RPA but can I break my lease? I can’t even sleep there anymore because of the fear of these bugs.
