Renter Scammed

By De Smith

On contact with the resideent manager we were asked to sign a blank copy of a rental/lease agreement and she would fill it in later as there was someplace she had to be. We trusted the manager as we had known her for a number of years. After signing and without our knowledge the monthly rent turned into a 12 month lease and the montly costs increased from what was verbally agreed. Note: the manager did not provide us a copy until a couple of days passed and we had moved in.

Since that initial meeting months later we have had the manager provide us a second copy. Now we see she must have forgotten she gave us the one prior we got another. That copy had been changed without our approval or knowledge let alone our initials acknowledging. More time passed we asked for another copy and that was different from the first and second. A total of 4 copies of the rental/lease agreement were given to us and all had been altered from the other(s) without our knowledge.
