Roommate is not paying her share of rent

By B. D

For the last couple of months my room mate (we are both on the lease) has been struggling to make her payments.  I found out today that she has paid only $100 towards $850 of her portion of rent.  Does anyone have ideas on how to handle this?

Darn roommate!  If your roommate is falling behind on rent maybe you could talk to her / him about the possibility of finding someone else to take over their lease.  You could post an ad on craigslist and find a new roommate.

If you don’t take care of it now, it will only get worse.  And the worst part is that the landlord will probably hold you responsible since you are both on the lease.

Why don’t your evict her sorry butt!!  If she isn’t paying– you’ve got to get rid of her immediately.  Trust me, if you don’t you jeopordize ruining your credit.  Do you really want your landlord to come after you for your roommates lack of payment?  He will!!! You really need to protect yourself.

Roommate problems are common– and some times entertaining.  Here’s a video of a court case between two roommates.  One roommate stuck the other one with $1300 in owed rent.   I don’t have any real advice, just a video that might shed some light on your situation:
