smoking neighbors

By Kassie

So we had new people move into the complex this last year and its been aweful. We couldn’t have our windows open or air conditioner on all summer because they are all on the side of the complex where the balconies are and the neighbors would be outside smoking. Now that its cold they have moved inside, which I normally wouldn’t bother complaining about but it is seeping into my apartment from some unknown location, it seems to be coming from everywhere so i can’t pin point it. I have put seals around the air conditioner to see if it was seeping in from outside even though it didn’t do that all summer when they were out there. there is just no way to pin point it. Its aweful in here, I mean headaches every day burning eyes, I have had to take my asthmatic baby to the hospital 2 times already for attacks. I wish I could just move out, but that’s not even a remote possibility. I have written the owner and complained to the manager and no one even acknowledges me…is there something that can be done? When I moved in the manager at the time told me there was to be no smoking in the apartments and I can’t find my lease to see if it said that in there so i have requested copies of that as well and recieved nothing. I mean, i get everyone has the right to smoke, I’m not fighting that…I shut myself in my 1000 degree all summer long and didn’t say a peep since it was outside and there’s obviously nothing that can be done, but I pay rent here too and I shouldn’t be forced to risk our health over this.

I have the same issue!! ….unfortunately seems like we are the loosers in this scenario, they have the ‘right to smoke’ and even if it prevents us (I am asmathic myself so I know what you little baby is going through) from living a healthy life, since they are doing it in their apartment there is nothing we can do …except of course hope they get some sort of ugly lung issue and they have to quit smoking :(
