Problem with the landord
By Rachel
My husband and I need some advice regarding my landlord and an issue we’ve had lately. We have been renting this place since October of 2011 and always pay our rent on time each month. The landlord advised us, when we moved in, that our water supply comes from their well (they live right down the lane from us, not more than 300 yards). There is no separate water bill, it’s included in our rent. We were also told that once a week, for a couple of hours in the morning, they water the trees on our lane with a trickle system. The landlord said we would have low water pressure during this time. We have found that the watering is done at least twice a week and instead of just a couple of hours in the morning, it will last for 2 or 3 days at a time. The lane will be flooded often from all of the watering, and we won’t have enough water pressure for anything. We are a family of five and we can’t take showers, do dishes, or run our swamp cooler. I have Multiple Sclerosis and the heat intensifies my symptoms, so going without a cooler in 100 degree weather is very dangerous for me. When this happened today, we contacted the landlady and asked her if she could turn off the trickle system because our swamp cooler wasn’t working. She said she would. We waited an hour and still no water pressure. Finally my husband phoned her again and told her we had no water pressure coud she please turn the trickle system off. They turned it off for about 10 minutes, then turned it back on! At this time it was raining too, so I don’t understand why they were watering. I plan on speaking to the landlady when we go to pay the rent and ask her if she will at least give us a heads up as to when they will be watering, so we can be prepared and I can go to my mother’s house. Is there anything we can do legally? It’s detrimental to my health, but I’m not sure what to do. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
