Bedbug Responsibility ?

By admin

My landlord has indicated that bedbugs are tenant borne thereby considered damage by the tenant and thus tenant responsibility; is this correct ?
Thank you . . .

According to most of the states law.. It is Landlords duty to keep his home or apartment in neat and tidy condition without any bed bugs or insects.. except when the dispair has been done by unlawful, malicious tenant or by any person / friend of tenant purposefully.

As you have not specified your exact state or city location or since how long you are tenant with your landlord, or i could have said in detailed as per the laws in your state., City like Minneapolis where I live have ordinance that require a landlord to take responsibilty to extermination rodents, insects, vermin, other kind of pest in their property if any from the concerned cleaning department.

You can take up your problem with the landlord by written mails, email’s or phone, check for few days if you don’t receive a reply or landlord is just hanging up the phone or not responding to your calls, emails, file a complaint and you can also escrow and hold your rent by taking a report or order from court only if you are quite sure that it’s not been done by you or any of your family.

There are also time when renting an apartment to various tenants by the landlords and mistake of bedbugs could have been done by other tenants, when they must have left the bedbugs could have been there since long you or landlord never knows. or sometimes because of various tenants and they call up their own inspection company which in turn do not completely eradicated the pest or bugs. In addition, some tenants may refuse to pay for the service, so you could be left with the bugs in some units and not in others.

I would be glad to advice you further if any help needed. Good Luck
