Can he really charge me for previous rent?

By

I was ling in a flat for four months. I had gotten kicked out of my parents house with my 1 year old son and an estate agent let me rent one of his flats. The rent for the flats was 120e per week but when i told him i had applied for rent allowance and was waiting for the decision on whether or not i was entitled to it. He calculated that with rent allownace i woud only be paying 25e per week so until it was through he said it was ok for me to pay 25e per week and when the rent allowance came through it would be back dated up to the date i moved in. Even though my contract said 120e per week he only ever asked me for 25e. Unfortunatly then my rent allowance only got accepted approximatly 4 months later and they decided that it would not be back dated for the 4 months that i had llived there. I moved out straight away and now the estate agent is asking me for all the rent for the time i lived there. Do i have any rights? Or do i have to pay it back? He had only asked me for the 25e every week so does he have the right to ask me for the money back?
