can the lanlord do this

By Susan

I was evicted, I tried to work with the landlord and told them that I was cleaning the appt even though I did not have a deposit coming back to me. as I had to use it for the rent I  still wanted to make sure it was clean when I left and I felt that was the correct thing to do.

I have health issues and cleaning was slow for me due to disabilitys, so I requested a few more days.  which I was given  but not without a fuss.   just before the few days was up I realized it was going to take longer than I thought and told them I could not keep setting myself up with end dates. that I was infact cleaning and sent pics of the work that I had done which was detailed the stove. I had also scrubbed out all of the kitchen cabbnets and lemon oiled inside of all the draws. and had been working on the bathroom.  i had filled all the holes in the walls due to pictures. and was almost finished repainting  the walls.  I had also had a peice of the lenolium in the kitchen repaired.

The next thing I know  they had filled with the court and I was served. even though I had been trying to work with them.

I was then taken ill and was unable to finish what I was doing  and had no choice but to get out before the police came at 6.30 in the morning to remove me. It took me several weeks to hire people to help me put  my stuff in storage and in the end I could not afford to hire anyone else to help so was left to do it alone.  as I struggled the last two nights trying to  carry things out to my car out of breath and having trouble breathing, I had to put up with one of the tenents standing outside watching me struggle and not one offer to help. i felt embarrest  I have never been evicted before in my life. and could not beleave that  people stood around and watched instead of offering to help a woman in her 50s with health issues.  I cried as I struggled to move the last of my things.

a few days later I texted the rental company and asked what I could do to stop the  eviction going on my record. and asked if I could make payments.  she said if I made payments then it would not go on my record. so I waited for them to decide what I owed . and was going to get back to them  about a payment plan.

when the letter came in the mail I could not beleave it. they were chargeing me for everything. $100.00 for cleaning.  all that needed to be done was normal cleaning all the detail work was done. they were charging me $83.96 for paint. $30.00 for what they called spot cleaning. repair to poorly patched kitchen  floor which was a 2 inch square. $164.00 they claimed that the heater conduit in the closet was broken  and the charge for that is $189.00 $75.00 for carpet cleaning which I knew about and was ok with.  to relite the furnace and replace the thermastate cover  $15.00 for material and $174.00 for 2 hrs labor  seriously it took two hrs to do this. I never used the heater in the whole time I lived there  which was 1yr 11 months. infact they had inspections  quite often and at one of those I had asked if they would turn the pilot off on the heater as it got so hot in there. they were charging me late fees   of $250.00 it was my understanding that once you file with the court that the late fees go away ???
Eviction fees of $715.00 .  The amount I have been billed for is $2,039.06  can this be possible ? I feel like they are trying to take me to the cleaners.
