Can they just come in to my place whenever they want??!

By Jenny

My landlord wanted to show my apartment tomorrow. I nicely told them tomorrow is not a good time, and asked if they can show my apartment in about a week. I explained to them that I will be working most of the time, and it would only be my Chinese speaking parents at home (they are visiting from China for a total of two weeks), so it would be very awkward and uncomfortable for them seeing strangers coming in my apartment without being able to communicate.

My landlord flat out telling me I have no right to refuse. Keep in mind I told them repeatedly my parents will be gone in one week and all I ask is one week of absolute privacy. They have two months to show after my parents leave in a highly demanding area.

My landlord told me as long as they give me notice, it no longer matters if it’s convenient for me or not. They said they will still show my apartment tomorrow regardless what I say.

They further asked me how could I deny prospective tenants’ right to see my apartment? Really??! Who is paying here? Me the current tenant or the prospectives?

I am angry beyond words. What can I do? I don’t think I am being unreasonable here. I did not even complain much when they just came in my apartment twice without notice just to scare my poor parents in their naps last week.

How can I complain? Where can I complain?
