Getting bit by spiders!

By Tanika

I have lived in the same complex for 3 years. I was told to renew my lease in December because I could lose my bedroom because it’s student housing. I got bit 5 times last summer and I killed 17 spiders in a month! I just killed one today. I have told the landlord on numerous occasions to have my room sprayed and I still see spiders. I have even moved into a whole different building. One bite got so infected I had to go to the ER and I couldn’t walk or work for a week. How can I get out of my lease that I renewed even though it doesn’t start until August?

Hi Tanika! You could serve your landlord a 30-day or 60-day written notice to vacate the rental unit due to spider infestations. You could include in your lease instructions about your security deposit. It would be better if you try to look for another tenant to rent the unit for you so that you will not have any trouble with your landlord. Good luck though and hope every thing goes well.
