Have They Really Been Paying the Mortgage?

By

My family has been living in this current house for 2 1/2 years.  This past December, my landlord tell me, they are putting the house up for sale (he doesn’t tell me it is a short sale–I find out when I see the listing on-line).  So, of course, they need to sell quickly.  Am I to assume that this is being done because they haven’t been paying the mortgage and didn’t want the house to go into foreclosure?  Is it right that I have been paying the rent for over two years (including late fees some months) and now it seems as if I have paid it for nothing?
