How can I get my deposit back?

My landlord hasn’t refunded my deposit yet and its been 2 months since I moved out.  Can anyone suggest how I can get him to refund my $500 deposit?  I hate how he thinks he can keep it.  I left the apartment in better condition than when I rented it.
