how long can a landlord go without replacing hot water heater in sc

By catawbagurl

I have been without hot water over 3 weeks. Landlord says he is going  thru insurance company. Do I still have to pay the monthly rent until it has been replaced? How long does the law require that it be replaced?

Wow! I can’t believe your landlord has made you take cold showers for 3 weeks; that’s crazy! I’m surprised you haven’t filed a complaint yet. As a tenant you have right to hot water. I think you should easily get your landlord to cover some of the rental cost. I think you’ve been patient enough… its probably time to get legal help. I think the RPA provides some type of option where you can file a landlord complaint. You should check into it.

I just checked, and there is an option to file a complaint against your landlord for him not providing hot water. On the complaint form you can ask for whatever solution you think is fair (hint hint: free rent while you were without hot water) Here’s a link to the RPA complaint form: http://www.rentalprotectionagency.com/complaint_center.php
