Incorrect Apartment

By Anamika

When I went to get details for available townhouses, property personal marked 2 houses on Map. Since they were occupied that time , she did not take for house tour. I had a discussion about how house being towards busy road, having noice issues. So she was completly aware of what we are taking about. I went and checked the house location and finalized one we discussed about.

One week before shifting when we decided to go for house tour, they mentioned that we are not signed for house she marked on map but she made a mistake and we have different house assigned to us. Now I have packed all the stuff, ready to be moved in.

I liked the house from map so much that I was ready to break my lease and pay 1 month rent as penalty after statying for almost 6 yrs in this house. I do not like this new house so much , I would have not broken my lease for this house. But now I have no choice but to move to this house. I have changed my address in many places, placed many online order which were scheduled to be arrived aftre my move in date. This is so much inconvinient and rental company have nothing to do otherthan say Sorry. I feel completely cheated in this situation.

Let me know what are my rights in this case and how it should be treated.

I am sorry to hear about this. Is the other apartment, the one that you really like, already taken? If not, can’t you be re-assigned to it since that’s clearly the one you like? Have you already signed the lease agreement for this new house? And if so, didn’t you read it before signing? Since you were greatly inconvenienced by this mistake, maybe you can ask to break the lease agreement or for a reduction in rent. Changing your address and getting mails delivered can be quickly corrected, you need to focus on the right house for now. If nothing works, you can file a complaint against your property manager through the RPA.
