Landlord giving gas bills out.

By Nick

Im on state assistance and section 8. I live in a apartment building that has only 1 gas meter and my landlord hands out gas bills on a little card. and he splits everyones rent. and he refuses to put in my rent or let me put it my name so I can get assistance on my gas. I even cut down a lot on my gas and my bill still stands on about 150.00 a month. Is this legal what hes doing.

My opinion, No this is not legal.

You may be charged more than what you actually use.

If you turn a bill in for more than you actually use this is fraud. Since there is only 1 meter there is no actual way to know for sure just how much you used.

Hi Nick! Did your landlord give you a copy of the gas bill? Was it written on your lease that the gas bill should be split between everyone living in the rental unit?If not then your landlord cannot do so. You have every right to file a complaint against your landlord through small claims court or through RPA.
