landlord harassing for tree’s damage

By willy

do we have to pay for the damage done to the landlords tree, even though that’s being not done by tenant. As childrens from other side of the road came and vandalised it without our knowing as we were not at home that time.

Now landlord says he wants to be compensate for the damage done, even we told him that this is not done by us. He is adament and says will only collect from us. Is it right?
Please help me. It would be appreciated. as i am in dilemma whether to pay or not.
