Landlord won’t return deposit-We never moved in

By Karen

Hi, I am trying to find an answer. We had found a house that we wanted to move in to. We signed the lease and gave the landlord the security deposit and first months rent. As of June 1st we were allowed to move in. On June 4th I had notified him of several problems that we needed resolved (which he had previously said that he would). They included the fact that the garage was full of the last tenants stuff and the carpets had a horrible pet urine odor. Also they still had personal items (mattresses, blankets, chairs. a radio, etc) at the house that he said they would not be able to remove until the 14th.

He responded by saying that maybe we would not be the best match and that if we wanted to sever the agreement he would refund the first months rent and security deposit. I agreed that if he was not willing to handle these issues, then he was correct. We moved all of our items out by June 9th as directed to by the landlord.

I have sent several e-mails asking when he would be sending the refund, and have not heard back.

I am concerned and scared that we may have lost this money $1500. I do not know how long he has legally to return our money, but we really need it! We are in Wisconsin.

I am hoping that somebody has some answers they can offer.   Thank you,  Karen
