landlord wont return security deposit.

By Tammy

my husband and i recently moved our growing family from a w bedroom trailer to a r bedroom house. we gave our old landlord notice and moved before we needed to, right away actually so our old landlord got a months rent and nobody lived in the house. we also have been sending him people that are interested in renting the house. he has been nothing but rude to us and the people we sent to him. he has lyed as to why we moved, and about things that he’s saying we broke and didnt fix. he told one prospective tenant we moved because the furnace was broke, which is not true, we moved because we out grew the house. he told someone else that he had to replace all the pipes in the basement because we didnt use the woodstove and it got to cold in the basement and the pipes broke. we used the woodstove once in a while but not often in thealmost two years we lived there. there was a pipe that had a small crack in it that he knew about before we left. we bought plumbers tape and covered it, he was aware of this, but all the pipes did not need replaced. he also power washed the house right after we gave him back the keys. if the pipes were busted he would not have been able to do this. he also said that he had to replace the carpet in the living room because of our dog. another lie. my husband and i have tried contacting him about these things and have gotten no response. my question is, what should we do? it has been almost a month since we handed him back the keys and we have heard nothing from him regarding our security deposit. and im afraid he is not going to return any of it.
