Landlord’s responsibility for bed bug problems?

By Mutzie

I am renting  a condo from a single-owner unit in a large condo project.  The monthly dues to the association are included with my rent–I do not pay a separate bill for dues.  I pay for gas, electric, and cable and phone.  I have lived here for approximately four months  and recently discovered that I have an infestation of bed bugs.  Currently, I am trying to correct the problem myself by researching as much as possible.

I have had two different pest control companies basically give me the same advice:  i.e., usually the association pays for this sort of problem;   usually if one unit is infected, the whole building could be infected9$ units per building);  the cost is enormous beginning at $450 per room and each additional room is $250 and all rooms must be done–this is guaranteed for 30 days only–unless the entire building is done.

What are my options as a tenant?  Are there any previous cases for zip code 89103?  I would appreciate any real responses as I have never encountered this before.
