Nail on wall burst sprinkler pipe

By Kumaran

Hello,

Need help! I was putting a nail in the wall to hang pictures and that nail put hole on the sprinkler pipe ACCIDENTALLY. The pipe burst out the water and flooded part of carpet in my living and same with the apartment below us.

The damages occurred were, to fix pipe, wall and replace part of the carpet padding in my apartment and as well with apartment below us. Now the property leasing office is after us for all these charges, which is a big number.

The pipe was right in the living room, hardly 1 or 1.5inches away inside the wall. I think it is design problem which was agreed by the guys who came to fix it. This had happended accidently but i dont think it is really fair to force the Renter to pay all these damages.

Please advise.

Thanks

Kumaran
