Problem with Management

By manhattangurl

My husband and I rented a house from a realtor almost a year ago. The house was very old and needed a lot of updates, but we fell in love with the space. The property manager told us as soon as the owner made some money on the property she would make updates to the house. We accepted the terms and moved in. Big mistake. The house had big holes through the walls, the previous tenants decided to drill holes to run cable. We didn’t notice how bad it was until Dish came out to install our cable and removed the cords from the wall. A month after we moved in, we noticed the dishwasher was not cleaning our dishes, it just made a lot of noise. That’s because it was broke. We notified management, she promised she would get a new one in place. After 7 months with the constantly reminding her, she sent a contractor to our home with a used dishwasher. It was old, dirty, and dented. I was furious. I immediately emailed her and asked her if she was going to give us a used dishwasher, why did we have to wait so long? She told us the owner wanted the old dishwasher in there. I told her I was not going to use it. And I took pictures. In the meantime, the bathtub was patched with holes and felt very unstable when my husband and I would shower. The bath bar was loose and would fall everytime we would grip it. The knobs on the tub were dry rotted, it would get loose and the hot water wouldn’t run. We had to disassemble it and tighted it with a screwdriver. (Imagine doing that in the mornings before work) Another 2 months went by before a new dishwasher was delievered, and it took my daughter falling out of the bathtub and me filing a complaint with the BBB for them to come out and replace the knobs in the tub. The bathtub model was so old the repairman could not find parts for the bathtub, so we were expected to accept things the way they were. In addition, the home isn’t secure, the front door can be opened with a credit card. The city had to shut off the water, dirt would get back up in the pipes and clogged the sink. Now the newly installed dishwasher that was never used will not drain water. Cracks in the bathtub we have been telling management for months are leaking. Our lease is up at the end of this month and my husband attempted to extend just until we can find another home that will accomodate us.(the kids school mainly) But because I’ve made many formal complaints about the services we are not recieving managment wants us to vaccate by the end of the month. Of course she didn’t dare put that in writing, however, she did send a text to my husband’s phone. She said this isn’t the way she conducts business. She claims I don’t have a valid complaint, and I am making her business look bad. I’m thinking small claims court.
