Problem with Rent Payment

Have a quick question. We signed an August to August lease and are not renewing this coming August yet our landlord is requiring us to be out of our apartment by August 3rd so they can clean for the next tenants arrival but they are still requiring us to pay rent for the month of August and they are also charging the people who are moving in the apartment rent for August as well. Is that allowed?
