Problem with too many people in one apartment

By Erin H.

Hi, I currently live in a one bedroom apartment in Illinois. I have had several problems with my neighbors and call the cops almost weekly on them. The problem is there is around 5-12 people living in each one bedroom apartment. The nosie is unreal and I am concerned about fire code rules since there are so many people in a one bedroom apartment. At this point I want out of my lease because the apartment complex does nothing to solve it. Is there anything I can do?

Contact the local fire marshall the landlord will be fined & forced to evict everyone in the overcrowded apartments & if they continue to allow that many people per apartment the owners business license will be revoked & they will have to relocate the tenants that didn’t violate fire codes to a place the same size same cost & same distance to your work
