replacing perfectly fine carpet

By terbear

I received a letter after my walk-through that I owed over $1000 to replace the carpet in my apartment that I only lived there for a year. the carpets by have needed cleaning but were not damaged enough to be fully replaced. When I moved in they were brand new carpets in the first place. how can you charge some one a carpet fee like that after the walk- through. I attempted to speak with the property management about the matter and received no cooperation. They did not even give me enough notice for me to respond to the letter only stateting the charges I owed not a reason why the carpets needed to be replaced or proof that the carpets were even damaged enough to be replaced. They automatically sent me to collection before I would try to resolve this issue with them directly. what do I do? How do I solve this?
