Tips to get your buddy in the door

By Tenant

Being a pet owner and trying to look for a rental unit with your buddy is sometimes enough to make a tenant howl. It is really very exasperating most especially if your buddy is bigger than your lady purse; however with today’s economy and vacancy rates are up and landlords struggling to find someone to rent their rental units, thus many landlords are now more willing to let pet owners rent their rental units along with their pets. Even though landlords will say yes to pet owners like you, you still have to show to the landlord that you are a best-of-breed pet owner.
Here is how you can show the landlord that you are the best tenant to rent his apartment unit.
• Be a good pet owner. Before you apply for an apartment, always ask yourself first if you have any applied knowledge on how to keep the cat from spraying and the dog from wailing and barking loudly inside the apartment. It is your responsibility as a tenant and as a pet owner to provide your pet with the best care and exercise.
• Sympathize with the owner’s concerns. Landlords and property managers have their own different reasons why they would prohibit pets in their rental units. It may be because there are tenants in the apartment complex that is allergic to your pet or simply because landlords think that pets are dirty and belong outside rather than inside the apartment. Thus whatever reason the landlord have, you must respect it.
• Put together Buddy’s résumé. Along with your application for the apartment it is also better to include a resume of your pet. Include in your pet resume documents from your pet’s veterinarian and pet shots. It is also better that you include your pet’s daily routine and his past time.

I think it is ok to rent with pets as long as the owner is responsible enough to keep the property in perfect living condition.

Why would someone rent in an apartment complex that allows pet when they are allergic to them?

I do not have a pet and I can’t afford to have one but I like living in an apartment complex with them.

Being responsible is the best key to have a good working relationship with the landlord.

Are you really sure that your pet will stick to its daily routine?

I live in a condo unit upstate and my landlord just allowed my neighbour to have a dog without informing us other tenants. Can he do that?

Is it illegal for my landlord to break my lease because of my dog? My dog is a very good dog and is well behaved.

Hahaha no matter how well-behaved your pet is if the tenant is such a pain in the ass then what is the point? You will be evicted from the apartment unit.

Should I allow pet owners to rent my apartment unit?

I have been living in this apartment complex for some years now and then suddenly my landlord gave us notice that he will be renting a couple of the units to pet owners. I have a 6-month old baby that is allergic to pets. Can I ask the landlord to not allow pet owners near our apartment floor?

I just recently bought a hamster for a pet and I informed my landlord about it and I paid for its pet fees and pet deposit. And today I received a notice of eviction from him saying that I breached our contract by buying a hamster. Can I still get the pet deposit and pet fees I paid him? It has been only 2 days since I brought the hamster in.

I have been a very responsible and model tenant for 4 years now and I am also a pet owner. I won different lawsuits filed against me by my neighbours because of the alleged noise made by my pet. Now both my landlord and my neighbours are harassing to get me out of the apartment
