wrongfully accused of non-payment of rent

By Brian

Hi, I am a long time renter and recently my landlord served me with eviction papers ordering me to appear in court for a notice to quit. They are accusing me of not paying rent for the last two months but i have proof (money order reciepts etc…). I was wondering if i have grounds to sue them for falsely accusing me and making me take off work to appear in court? Also, this is not the first time they have made a mistake accusing me of nonpayment but it is the first time serving me eviction papers.

That’s good to know that you got the invoice receipts. You can use that to sue them, that is if you really would like to. If they sue you first, you can use those invoices as a support documents. If you sue them first, there’s a big chance for you to still be renting on the property plus a possibility for them paying you. Goodluck to that, and nice job on keeping the receipts.

Those receipts are vital proofs. You might want to try talking to your landlord about it. We’ll if you want to pay another sum for a court trial its up to you. Another option that you can do is filing a compliant through RPA.

Yes, your receipts are proofs. Just keep it. Ask them if they have a copy of your receipts so you can compare it. And proves that they are wronged of accusing you.
