“bad” landlord

By Sandra Wu

My landlord came into my room while I wasn’t there. She has party in the place I live every Thursday and she doesn’t live in.

She comes to our house whenever she wants , but according to the contract, she needs to give us 24 hours notice.

She doesn’t maintian the house, maybe once in a while. We are asked to clean the bathroom whenever she thinks it’s dirty.

She doesn’t fix the light in the kitchen and the oven is broken. We are not allowed to cook after 11pm and my closet is broken since I started renting my room.

My bed would fall apart cause it’s not balanced and I don’t have any heat in my room.

My parents came here( monterey Park) and I rent a room from 12/22 2010 to 1/8 2011 to them. At the first time she said 2 weeks is $300. I confirmed with her after 2 weeks she said it will be $600 for 2 weeks. She changed the price and on 1/5 she said 2 weeks is until 1/5 so I have to pay extra 100 for 2 nights. I have the receipt but she still wants to charge me. The house’s internet is slow and everyone ( 5 people ) pay $ 15 ( for each) to use it.

I don’t know what to know and I really hope I can find any solution to help me solve this situation.

Bad Landlord

By Paula

I have an oral contract with a landlord for renting his home for one year.  Our agreement was to clean out the house (previous tenant trashed house) and make repairs, which we could move in after the cleanout and make repairs while we lived here, there was no assigned timeline on repairs.   We have done the clean and made 90% of the repairs, until we received a letter from landlord to stop repairs in October, which was only after we turned him into Code Enforcement because the basement floods and there is mold and mildew in the basement.   He was found to be an illegal ouster because he turned off the electric without warning the beginning of November, which crashed both my laptop and my desktop computer, neither of which run right now.  We also lost all the pictures of our three year old son’s birth and up until this date.  He did not turn on the electric the day the court ordered him too but told the power company to turn it on five days later; the judge had to call to get it turned back on.  He called the police two days ago and tried to get us thrown out of the house by lying to the police and then he was lurking in our yard at 6pm last night – it was dark and my husband was not home, he quickly took off when my husband pulled into the driveway.   I have been on antibiotics three times, steroids twice and now an inhaler because of the house.   I cannot find a lawyer who represents tenants who are being harassed by bad landlords….not all tenants are bad, some of us are actually good and take care of homes as if they were our own.  I need a lawyer who wants to help me with this case and sue this landlord for his neglect and harassment.  Please help…good tenant with a crappie landlord
