Did not sign a 2011 lease, yet landlord not letting me out to this lease, I do not think 2011 lease is valid

I signed a lease for 2010. The property manager said the lease goes month to month after the 1st year.  I did not sign a lease for 2011.  My intentions for leave the apartment was placed in writing to the landlord 60 prior to me leaving.  The landlord stated my lease automatically renewed for 2011 and I was obligated to pay. I never signed anything for 2011.  The landlord then said, I can leave in October however, still had to pay November’s rent.  What are my options?
