A/C doesnt work

I a renting an apartment and i signed a year lease before i moved in the property management told me they will be putting a new wall A/C in because it does not work. NOW THREE MONTHS LATER THEY ARE TELLING ME I HAVE TO BUY MY OWN A/C BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT DOING IT . SO WHAT ARE MY OPTIONS. I DO NOT HAVE THE MONEY TO BUY ONE AND MY SON HAS ASTHMA .
