landlord did background check, found DUI16 years old. They’re not sure whether to rent.Advice??

By Katrina

I recently got a new job after searching a very long time.  I have relocated my belongings and my new boss made a down payment on a small apartment as part of  my moving costs package.  The apt. complex did a background check and came up with a DUI that is 16 years old.  I thought it had been expunged but obviously not.  Anyway, the apt. complex manager is waffling as to whether to rent to me, even though they got glowing reports from former landlords, as well as my new boss who is, by the way, a locally known and successful businessman in that town.  My belongings are all on the way right now and I fly out of this state to Louisiana tomorrow morning.  I have only recently been able to reach my attorney on the case.  He is going to check documents in court file and may send a letter stating certain facts…not sure but even if the case WAS to be expunged, fact remains….the DUI is now a known factor.  I live a quiet life, not partying, very clean, pay rent on time.  A good tenant, in other words.  Any words of advice to convince them?  Hate to have to pay the attorney more money and then have the apt. complex still say no.  Well, one good thing is that now the expungment WILL at least be filed…I hope.  Thanks for any thoughts on what I  might say to convince this complex I am now a drunk looking for a party place.
