Landlord keeping security deposit

By James

I moved out the last day of 1 year lease and gave forwarding address to my landlord on the 4th of following month stating where to send the security deposit and that property was vacated. it has been 35 days and I got no information to refund or letter stating why deposit is being kept. The lease area where to provide notice of moving was left blank and also  lease had expired and landlord made no contact with us  regarding  renewing .

Now in this scenario what can I do for this? How can I get back the security deposit from my landlord? I spoke to one lawyer and she told that its my right and I should get it back. I have the rent receipt with me and  I think it should help me to get it back legally.
